FOLDBACK AND MONITORING SYSTEMS
Foldback or monitoring in orchestra pits, and especially for remote bands and orchestras, can create problems for both musicians and audio crews. Each musician can require a separate headphone or monitor mix, requiring dedicated mixers with multiple sends and often additional crew to operate them.
Furman Remote Mixing System - HDS-6 / HR-6 The Furman HDS-6 / HR-6 system offers a flexible way to provide custom mixes for up to 16 people in recording and live sound environments. The system consists of the rackmount HDS-6 Audio Distribution unit and one or more HR-6 remote mixers. Up to eight HR-6 units can be daisy chained to an HDS-6, and two pairs of headphones may be plugged into each HR-6.
The HDS-6 rack unit connects to the mixer to via balanced 1/4" jacks and provides an interface and power supply to drive a group of remote mixers. Trimpots are provided on the front panel to match console outputs to HDS-6 inputs (-10dB to +4dB trim).
The HR-6 remote mixer is a compact 6 channel remote mixer that can clamp to a mic or music stand. It provides four mono and one stereo level controls. The four mono controls allow each user to create a custom mix of channel or groups from the main mixer. The stereo control can be used for a full mix or effects return.
Furman Remote Mixing System - HDS-16 / HRM-16 The HDS-6 / HR-6 Headphone /Audio Distribution System is the latest addition to the Furman monitoring range. The HDS-16 distribution device sends signals to one or more HRM-16 remote mixers. This system, although similar to the HDS-6 system offers more channels and additional features.
The HDS-16 accepts eight mono and four stereo inputs from a mixing console and routes them to each HRM-16 via a 50-pin Centronics cable. This cable also supplies power to each remote mixer so they do not require a power cable or 'wall-wart' power supply. A maximum of eight HRM-16 can de driven from a single HDS-16. Since each HRM-16 can drive two headphone outputs, sixteen musicians can be supplid with eight different mixes from one HDS-16.
It also features a built-in microphone and talkback system that allows communication between each musician and the mix engineer. Two modes of talkback are available allowing tailored setups for live and studio operation.
Headphone available for rental with either of the Furman monitoring range include units from Sennhesier and Beyerdynamic.
